On the '1. Search for partners' tab, choose the website(s) you are not interested in from the list and put the checkmarks.
Click the 'Manage sites' button in the right bottom corner of the window.
Select 'Delete checked sites'.
On the '1. Search for partners' tab, checkmark the sites you would like to send a non-personal partnership request to, right-click in the table and select 'Move checked to 'Auto correspondence' on the popup menu.
Go to the '2. Manage correspondence' tab (you will be asked to configure the mail sending profile). Here you define the return address(es), the message templates you would like to use, and set up the rules for detecting the e-mail addresses of the potential partners.
When you are done, press 'OK' to be taken to main screen, and then 'Send bulk'.
Note: take care to specify your SMTP server address and port in order to email messages successfully.
Open Partners > 'Manage correspondence' tab.
Click 'Email preferences' in the top right-hand corner above the report (on any of the subtabs).
Go to the 'Email Search Rules' tab and check one or more of the following options:
'Use 'Alexa Contact Info' to have the program search Alexa.com for the site's e-mail address.
'Use 'Whois' data' to have the program use the 'Whois Lookup' or similar domain registration service.
'Scan potential partner website' to have the program search contact pages of the site.
'Use predefined e-mail addresses' to have the program create the email addresses based on the site domain and the common user names such as 'info', 'webmaster', 'admin', etc. We recommend leaving this option selected. You can also edit the list of those words in case no emails were found.
'Exact email address search' if you select this option, the program will look only for those addresses where the second part coincides with the partner's domain name. This prevents the Partner Finder from picking up addresses which might have nothing in common with the partner's contact details.
We also recommend that you should leave the default options on the 'Scan rules' tab (i.e. 'Average scan depth' and 'Average filtering') intact.
Check the sites on the '1. Search for partners' tab.
Right-click in the table and select 'Move checked to Personal Correspondence' on the popup menu. To view them on this tab again, you should select 'Personal correspondence' from the drop-down menu of the tab.
Then go to the 'Manage correspondence' tab and configure the mail sending profile: just follow the profile manager steps.
After you are done, press 'OK' to be taken to main screen, then 'Send manually' for personal correspondence.
Click on the Profile button located on the toolbar above the report.
On the profile dropdown list, select 'Edit Profile'.
Go to the 'Scan rules' tab.
Adjust the 'Search engine scan depth' value from minimum to maximum. The default 'Average scan depth' option allows you to get a considerable amount of results. If you select the 'Minimal scan depth' option, only most relevant results will stay on the list.
Adjust the 'Partner site filtering' value from maximum to minimum to have the program remove less relevant sites based on their score. If you don't reset the default 'Average site filtering' option, the program will remove fewer sites than it would remove with the 'Maximum site filtering' option selected.
On the 'Email settings' tab, specify the email account to be used. If you haven't set up an email account yet, you can do it: File > Settings > General > Connections > Mail transfer.
On the 'Templates' tab, create or import templates for the automatic cycle. You can use the default Web CEO templates, create your own ones (press the 'Add' button for this) or import the templates from another project.
On the 'Automatic Correspondence Cycle', select templates for the first message and follow-ups and specify the period of time to wait before sending follow-ups. Also, you can choose how many messages can be sent per minute.
On the 'Email Search Rules' tab, set up rules for detecting the potential partners' e-mail addresses.
After you are done, press 'OK' to be taken to the main screen, then 'Send bulk' for automatic correspondence.
To do this, go to the second 'Templates' tab of the profile manager - you'll see the list of the available templates:
Note: You can insert variables in the template body to introduce yourself, name your and your partner's site, etc. Click 'Insert variable' and select one. Also, the current Web CEO version supports the HTML format for templates, so you can use its advantages.
Also, you can set the tool to move the site to 'Trash' if no reply was received. This option is available for the 'Automatic correspondence' section:
Go to the '2. Manage correspondence' tab > Automatic correspondence > click the 'Email preferences' button.
Choose the 'Automatic Correspondence Cycle' tab. Check the option of moving the sites to 'Trash' if you receive no response to the last email of the cycle.
To run the search by competition:
Open Partners and click 'Configure' (if you haven't used the tool for the selected project) or Profile > Edit Profile (if you've already worked with this project in Partners).
On the '1. Search mode' tab, check the 'Search for sites linking to your competitors' option.
On the '4. Add competition' tab, specify your competitors: you can import the list from a text file, clipboard or another tool.
Click 'OK'.
When the scanning is over and the list of sites is retrieved, you can apply the filters to view all the results or the definite reports for each searching mode: just select 'All sites', 'Search by competitors' or 'Search by keywords' at the top left of the program window.
The 'Problems' status is used when the results for the definite agreement are retrieved successfully, but some conditions don't meet the requirements set.
The 'Unknown' status is used when due to some technical cause it is not possible to retrieve the results for the definite agreement.
You can view the breakdown for each case by going to the 'Detailed' tab and checking the 'Show in detail' option.
To do this, select 'Settings' on the 'File' menu, click 'General' tab, then 'Mail transfer'.
Press the 'Add' button and fill the required fields. Make sure that all the data entered and the connection type are defined correctly. You can look for the necessary information in your regular email client or consult your mail service provider about the server authentication procedure they use. If you use Microsoft Outlook or Outlook Express, you can also import its e-mail accounts into Web CEO.
Note: you should only use paid Yahoo! email accounts in Web CEO, because free Yahoo! accounts only allow you sending email messages via the website, thus they cannot be used elsewhere.
When the account is set up, you can check its activity: press the 'Test this email account' button and Web CEO will perform a connection test.
Then it analyzes the retrieved results pages. The more times the site is found for the given keywords, the better its score is. You can't change the formula for the score; however we did our best to make it up so that it can help you sift out the best sites.
The program also provides you with the important information such as the sites' Title, Meta Description and Keywords. They can give you a better understanding of sites' profiles.
If the above-mentioned parameters are not prominent enough, you can request additional information about the site. Double-click on the site line (or right-click it and select 'Site details') to have the program request Alexa Traffic Rank, the numbers of indexed pages and backlinks found on major search engines, presence in the major directory listings etc at the 'Additional parameters' tab.
At the second 'Site preview' tab you can look at that web site. The third 'Contact details' tab provides you such information as site owner, his address, email address and phone number if this info is found on Alexa. Besides, you can edit these data.
I. Open the Partners tool and go to the '3. Partners' tab.
II. Click 'Manage partners list' to configure the profile:
On the 'Manage partner domains' tab, add the URL(s) of the partner's site(s).
On the 'Configure partnership terms' tab, define the conditions to be checked:
Select the site and click 'Add Agreement' to set up a new agreement or 'Configure' to edit the existing agreement.
Define the conditions to check on all the three tabs.
Note: on the '3. Track page changes' tab, you can select Google, Yahoo, Ask.com or Yandex using the 'Referring page should be present in search engine index of:' option.
III. Press 'OK' to save the profile.
You can run the report for all the sites in your profile, or for a part of them. To select several sites, highlight them using the SHIFT key + arrow up/down or CTRL/SHIFT key + left mouse.
Then click the 'Review status' button if you want to run the report for all your agreements. If you want to check several agreements only, click the small black arrow next to this button and choose 'Review selected agreements'.
After the report is completed, you can use the system of filters to view the results in the most convenient way.
Ensuring that all the elements of a website are functioning properly is critical to maximizing a company's Web investment. When unavoidable failures do occur, minimizing the downtime lessens the impact. One of the prime advantages of a website is its ability to reach customers around the world 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A failing website just does not fulfill its full potential.
If the other monitoring center succeeds in reaching your Web server from another continent, the event is logged, but no alert messages are sent. If your server has a 'down' status after two successive attempts by the first monitoring center, and is also unreachable from the second monitoring center, the alert status is valid and you are told. The monitoring centers also trace routes to your Web server, so you know where the Internet problems are located. You are notified when the site comes back up.
If your Web server fails to recover within 30 minutes, Web CEO will repeat the alert messages. Again, when your site is back up, an email tells you of its recovery.
Select your site in the Project Manager, and click Monitoring Plan.
Choose the desired monitoring plan and click OK. If you use Web CEO Free Trial, only the Free plan will be available.
If you haven't activated Monitoring before, the confirmation window will appear; press OK.
A message will appear notifying you that the confirmation letter will be sent to your mailbox; press OK.
A box will appear to inform you that the confirmation letter has been sent; it should arrive within 4 hours; press OK.
Open your mailbox. You'll see the message from Web CEO asking you to click on a link to confirm your Monitoring service activation.
Once you confirm, the Monitoring plan will be active. Go to Monitoring in Web CEO, choose your site, and choose all necessary settings on the Setup tab. You can select the services and server ports to be monitored and indicate the contacts to be notified in case of failure.
For more details on Monitoring, please refer to Help > Help Topics > Part IV. How To Maintain Your Website? > Step 12. Monitor Your Site.
Go to File > Project Manager
Select your site, and click Monitoring Plan
In the subscription dialog window, select Not Active and click OK
Highlight Services Available For Monitoring from the Setup tab. If some ports or services are not highlighted, this means your hosting company doesn't allow access to them. For those services that are available, check the necessary services, uncheck services that you do not need, and press Apply.
Make sure you enable only those monitoring services that your host provider allows. Contact your hosting company for more details. To change the details for the contacts to be notified or the format of alert messages, select the contact name in the list and click Edit. After you make the desired changes, click OK.
To avoid such situations, please press the 'Highlight services available for monitoring' button on the 'Setup' tab in Monitoring. If some ports or services are not highlighted, this means your hosting company doesn't allow access to them.
Make sure you enable only those monitoring services that you are sure your host provider allows. You can contact your hosting company for more details.
Web CEO monitoring centers will visit your Web site every 5-480 min. (depending on the service plan) from different parts of the world and check if your site is up and that its services are functioning. If they ever detect that your website or any related service (incoming and outgoing mail servers, HTTPS, etc.) are not available to visitors, you will get warned by email with a problem description and status. The error notification describes the source of problems and helps you understand what action should be taken to resolve the problem.
You can also view real-time reports on your server performance: Connect time, Host ping, Download time, DNS resolve time, Download speed, Time-outs, Time on error, and Uptime, and perform a test on your site download speed anytime you wish.
It is very important for us that our clients keep their Knowledge Base fresh and up-to-date in accordance with the latest search engine requirements. We keep full-time developers whose only duty is to track the changes in search engines' algorithms and regular expressions and to change our Knowledge Base accordingly. Our research and maintenance continues 24/7, and the updates are issued every two to three days.
While it is not obligatory to get the Knowledge Base updates, it is strongly recommended that you do. Otherwise you may follow an obsolete piece of advice and get wrong analysis in tools that require constant updates (Ranking Checker, Submission, Optimization, etc.).
Click 'Update Knowledge Base' at the bottom right-hand corner of the Web CEO screen.
The program will connect to the Datacenter, and the window with the subscription rates and your credit card details will appear. Check the CC details and change them if necessary.
Select the desired KB support plan and hit 'Extend Subscription'.
After you subscribe, you will be able to download and install the latest KB updates.
Enable cookies for the websiteceo.com and webceo.com domains.
Allow the application files 'webceo.exe' and 'wsceokrnl.dll' to send and receive information.
You can read this PDF guide for detailed instructions on the most popular firewall settings.
Search engines often change their algorithms and regular expressions. We have several tech specialists who track those changes in a thousand of SEs daily, and modify the Knowledge Base accordingly. That's why this service comes at an extra charge.
Those users who regularly use the Keyword Suggestion tool, Ranking tool, Link Popularity tool, Partners tool, Optimization tool, and Submission tool, will definitely need to have them updated on a regular basis. Those who use the Hitlens statistics, Monitoring, Editor and Uploader only, won't need the KB updates. That's why the KB updates are offered as an extra service.
So, in case you wish to use the Keyword Suggestion tool and the other mentioned tools to the full extent, and have your KB updated as before, please extend your KB subscription. You will be able to read the details and rates after you click the 'Update Knowledge Base' button at the bottom right of your Web CEO screen.
To re-activate the client's access to reports, select his/her account in Client Manager, and click 'Reactivate Account'. Then, click 'OK' in the confirmation window. Once the information is passed to our Datacenter, your client will be able to load his/her reports again.
You shouldn't assign commonly used names (e.g. Client1, Client2 etc.) to your clients' accounts, as there are chances someone else has already registered an account using such a login. Use unique information (say, company name or e-mail address) when creating names and logins for new clients' accounts - this will eliminate the chances that such logins have already been used by some other Web CEO customers.
Open Web CEO, go to File > Client Manager.
Click 'Add account' to create a new account. Here you can set up the login and password you wish. Fill in all the necessary fields and click 'Next'. The data will be transferred to our server.
The 'Manage clients sites' window will show up. Now you can choose what websites (projects) you want to show to this client. Click 'Next'.
In the 'Set access to services' window you can choose what reports your client will have access to. Select the website and click 'Set permissions'. Put the checkmark near the necessary services to activate them for this client.
In the 'Customization' tab you can set up the appearance of your client's Report Viewer, choose the interface language and the style of reports.
Take care to click 'Apply' to save changes on our server. Now you can log on to Report Viewer using the details you had set up in Step 2.
Manage Client Sites tab, but I have more sites with HitLens active in Project Manager. That is why you will only see those sites that were activated by you in the client account wizard. All sites with the HitLens service activated by someone else will not appear in that list.
To customize the Report Viewer interface, please do the following:
Go to Web CEO Client Manager (File > Client Manager)
Double-click on the client account you wish to customize
Go to the 'Customization' tab
Click 'New profile' to create a new branding profile
Here you can change your details:
-'Service names' - set up names for the services you provide to your clients -'Splash screen' - choose the splash screen image (.png .jpg .gif .bmp file formats) -'Header picture' - choose the header picture -'About' window' - enter the e-mail address, the name, the privacy policy of your company
Besides, you can add header, footer, logo (.png .jpg .gif .bmp file formats) to the reports, and change their color scheme.
You can use one profile for several client accounts, or set up a personal branding profile for each of your clients. Take care to click 'Apply' to save all the changes you've made.
Here's how to provide your clients with offline reports:
Pave the way for the proper Scheduler work. Enter the necessary data to the Submission/Ranking tools, otherwise Scheduler won't be able to run the report.
Adjust the Client Manager settings:
Open Client Manager, choose the client to send reports to, or create a new client account if needed;
Go to the 'Manage clients' sites' tab and point the client's website(s) that he/she will be able to view the reports for in his/her Report Viewer;
Move to the 'Set access to services' tab; here you can choose which reports on which services your client will be able to view.
To let your client view Submission/Ranking reports, select the website and click 'Set permissions'. Put the checkmark near the 'Ranking'or 'Submission' or 'Links' services to activate them for this client. Take care to click 'Apply' to save changes on our server.
Set up Scheduler to run reports:
Close Client Manager and open the Scheduler tool (File > Scheduler) - the 'Task map' tab will open.
Note: Before doing this, make sure you had entered the necessary info to the tools you will run tasks for in Scheduler
Choose the client's website and create a task to run in Submission and/or Ranking. Configure parameters and options for each task.
Have a look at the 'Publishing' section of the 'Task configuration' window. You should see the clients' names from your 'Client Manager' here. If you can't see them, make sure you have adjusted the clients' settings in Client Manager correctly (most possibly you haven't chosen the services you are going to provide to the client).
To send the generated Ranking/Submission report to the client's Report Viewer, put the checkmark near the client's name. Click 'OK'.
The task will be run at the scheduled time, however, if you wish, you can run it manually in Scheduler anytime.
After the task is completed, the generated report will be automatically sent to our server. Your client's Report Viewer will download the reports and notify your client of that. By default, Submission/Ranking reports are stored in the 'SEO Reports' tab (you can rename it in the Client Manager settings if you wish).
If you wish to make sure the reports are delivered to your client, you can install the Report Viewer to your PC, log on under your client's account and get the reports. They are stored on our servers, so you both have access to them anytime.
Note: in the current version you have a possibility to send an offline report to the Report Viewer directly from Web CEO Ranking or Submission. To do this, generate a report, go to File > Publish. Select the client and click 'Publish the report'. The report will be sent to the server.
Have you downloaded the new files in your Report Viewer from our server? Log in to Report Viewer under your client's account and press F2 to check.
Make sure that you set up your client's account properly and gave all the necessary permissions:
Open Web CEO > Client Manager, choose the client to send reports to;
Go to the 'Manage clients' sites' tab and point the client's website(s) to be viewed in Report Viewer;
Move to the 'Set access to services' tab; here you can choose which reports on which services your client will be able to view. Select the website and click 'Set permissions'.
Make sure that you put the checkmark near the necessary services. Take care to click 'Apply' to save changes on our server.
Make sure that you published the proper reports. To check the things, select a report in a Web CEO tool and go to File > Publish to send this report to Report Viewer. Open the Viewer and get new items from server.
If you set up Scheduler to publish an Auditor/Links/Submission/Ranking report automatically, open the Scheduler's task and check the '4. Publishing' tab of the 'Task configuration' window. You should see the clients' names from your 'Client Manager' here, and the publishing option should be selected.
Open Profile Manager: on the Profile dropdown list, select 'Edit Profile'.
Go to the 'Add keywords' tab. Here you can unselect the unnecessary keywords by removing checkmarks near them. To add new keywords, click 'Add', then enter the new keywords, each on a separate line. Click 'OK'.
You can also import keywords from your site's meta tags, from the text file, from clipboard or from another project.
To import keywords from another project, press 'Import from' > 'Advanced import'. You will be given a list of Web CEO tools where you can import keywords from.
Note: You can't edit misspelled keywords; you can only delete them and add correct ones. If you don't want to use some keywords in your current profile, just uncheck them. In case you want to delete some keyword(s) once and for all, you should right-click on a keyword and select 'Delete' from the popup menu, or else highlight a keyword and press the 'Delete' button.
Once again, when you delete a keyword this way, it will be permanently deleted from all profiles created within the selected project.
In the 'Profile Manager' window, go to the 'Select search engines' tab.
Click on the 'Check' button, and then select the target country on the 'Check by country' menu (or the target language - 'Check by language').
Check 'Only show selected', and the program will filter out all but your regional search engines.
Click 'Edit profile' (or configure a new profile if you run the Ranking Checker for the first time).
On the 'Select search engines' tab, click the 'Favorites' button, select 'Organize favorites'.
In the 'Favorites Manager' window, check only those search engines you need. Press OK.
If you need another list of favorites, the in the 'Favorites manager' press 'Add' and name the new list. Then check the necessary SEs and press 'OK'. You can create as many lists as necessary, edit the created favorites lists and rename them.
All the favorites lists will become available on the 'Favorites' menu.
In case you need to see only the ranked results, you should do the following:
Similarly, you can apply other useful preset filters such as 'In top 10', 'Changed', 'Added', etc., and even create filters according to your own criteria.
In case you want to delete some keyword once and for all, you should right-click on it and select 'Delete' on the popup menu, or highlight a keyword and press the 'Delete' button.
Once again, when you delete a keyword this way, it will be permanently deleted from all profiles created within the selected project.
The list will be valid during the whole ranking scanning session provided it does not exceed two hours. However, if connection errors are encountered, and re-scanning is required, the program will update the list of proxies before initiating the re-scanning. The program will also update the list if you start a new report in two hours.
If you would like to use proxy servers of your own choice, you can check 'Enter proxy addresses manually' and type in the proxy addresses and ports.
After this the sponsored results will be marked with the special '$' icon. You can view all sponsored results separately with the help of the "Sponsored" filter available in the list of the filters.
Note: there are several types of sponsored results that search engines display:
Some search engines redirect the URLs of their sponsored results, so it is not always easy to find out the correct destination URL. The program can solve this task by following the redirects.
You should select "Follow sponsored links" in the Redirects settings window (File > Settings > SE requests > Safety and accuracy > Redirects > Custom redirects > press the "Setup" button and choose "Follow sponsored links & Redirect type check as Quick (server-side)"
However, the search engine may prevent the program from detecting the correct URL, so this method is not 100% accurate. If you select the "Deep (+ Meta refresh)" redirect type check, the program will find the correct destination URL, but it will click on the sponsored results, which is not good for you or your client's advertising budget.
The '2. Indexed pages' report gives you the list of pages indexed by at least one search engine. You can sort the list by clicking on the 'SEs total' to see the site pages in descending order.
The '4. Competitors' indexation' report gives you the numbers of your site's and your competitors' pages indexed by the major search engines.
The program queries SE for the given keywords, gets SERPs and then searches for your and your competitor sites' results on them. Then it calculates scores for the key phrases; the scores depend on the site rankings, key phrase competition and search engine importance.
The formula for the Ranking score is preset; however, you can change it according to your demands. Open the 'Profile Manager', move to the '5. Score settings' tab and click 'Formula'. You'll be able to modify the Search engine and Position weight. For example, you can give a greater importance to a regional search engine by increasing its weight. You can also edit the formula itself and use it to compare and evaluate sites.
Click on the Profile button located on the toolbar above the report.
On the Profile dropdown list, select 'Edit Profile'.
In the Profile manager window, click on the '3. Set scan rules' tab.
Enter the domain masks, each on a separate line. You can use an asterisk (*mirror.com) to substitute multiple characters.
Click 'OK' to finish editing the profile.
As a result, the program will provide all found rankings in one report regardless the domain.
Indexed pages and Competitors Indexation reports? If you know of such search engines, click 'Suggest a Feature' in the Web CEO Support Center or contact support@webceo.com. We usually add new search engines within a week.
Besides, you can also compare your current results to the best results for a definite period. To do this, press the small black arrow next to the 'Best' button and select the period from the drop-down menu.
To view this report, click the small black arrow next to the 'History' button at the right-bottom corner of the 'Site ranking' window. Choose 'Advanced history' from the menu.
Note: you can apply filters to view the results, for example, to get the report for the definite set of search engines and keywords.
Search engines may show a different number of links (even across a day) for technical reasons such as database updates, temporary switches to older backups or different databases because of maintenance, etc. You will see these variations if you repeat the search in your browser too.
Make sure you have set the same browser languages in Web CEO and your browser. Open the 'Settings' window in the 'File' menu and select 'Connection' on the 'SE Requests' tab. There you will see the language Web CEO uses, and will be able to change it.
If you use Internet Explorer 6.0, then in order to find out the selected language go to the Tools menu > Internet Options > General tab > Languages.
To resolve the cookies and browser language issues and have the program use your browser cookies and languages, select 'Settings' on the 'File' menu, then move to the 'SE requests' tab. Click 'Connections' and then check 'Use IE cookies and language settings when requesting search engines'.
A search engine can switch you to its regional version automatically if you have a proxy server with an IP address that fits in the specific IP addresses range. Ensure that Web CEO and your browser use the same proxy server to connect to the Internet.
If none of the above solutions work, then Web CEO's search engine Knowledge Base may be out of date. Update the knowledge base. If this does not solve the problem, contact support@webceo.com giving us the URL of your site and the names of your selected search engines.
Enter the email address with which you registered and click OK. The password will be sent to you.
You can also use the Password Reminder form at http://www.webceo.com/support/#Password . Enter your email and click 'Send'. The account details will be sent to you in a few minutes.
In case you need to retrieve your password for Web CEO, click here, enter the email address with which your Web CEO license has been registered, and the password will be sent to your mailbox.
Remove the AutoLogon checkmark by right-clicking on the plug button in the bottom right-hand corner of the program window. Double-click the plug button to connect to the Datacenter.
Enter your registration details in the Account window. To edit your email address, click the button to the right of the email address field.
Please note that when you log on to Web CEO under another account, all information from your initial account is erased. To avoid this, please make a backup of your Web CEO database using Web CEO DataGuard. You will be able to restore your previous information when you return to your initial account.
Enter your site URL, its description, and select a folder in which to place your project. The default is the Main folder, but you can create custom folders if needed. Click 'Next'.
You will be asked to activate traffic analysis for your site. Check 'Activate Your 15-Day Free Trial Of Live Traffic Analysis' if you wish to activate HitLens now, or skip that option to activate later; click 'Next'.
Check that the information is correct and hit 'Finish'.
You can add several URLs to your projects at one go. Click the black arrow on the 'New Site' and select the 'Import Sites from the file' option. You can add sites from a .csv or .txt file.
The URLs should be entered this way: www.example1.com, description of the site 1; www.example2.com; description of the site 2.
Site description is optional. The URLs can be separated from the description by a semicolon, a comma, or by any other delimiter that you specify.
Check that none of the Web CEO tools is running for the site that you wish to delete.
Make sure the real-time services like HitLens traffic analysis or Monitoring are not activated for this project. If they are, turn them off in the Project Manager by selecting the project and pressing the respective buttons below.
Note: as soon as you deactivate the service, all data is erased on our servers, so you will no longer be able to retrieve reports.
Select 'Delete Site' from the pop-up menu.
Confirm the site deletion.
Note: when a site is removed from your projects, all report history for that site is deleted as well.
Enter the information and press OK.
In the Product Information section, you will see your Web CEO version and the license type, the Knowledge Base revision and expiration term.
The second section contains your license information - owner name, company, email address, and license number.
The last section lists the Web CEO contact details - address, phone, fax, and email.
The only legal and proper way to backup and restore your data files is to use the DataGuard Wizard available in the Start Menu > Programs > Web CEO > Web CEO DataGuard.
To register Web CEO at your new location using the same account details, install the program, select the 'I'm An Existing User' option in the registration window, and register with the same email and password that were used for the initial registration. You will receive a list of all projects with activated HitLens and/or Monitoring.
To activate HitLens at the new location, enter the master password and make sure that the local copy of your website is the same at both locations; this ensures that two different tracking codes are not inserted into one page from different places.
Please note: you cannot run two copies of Web CEO simultaneously on different machines under one license.
To synchronize the database, backup your database on one PC using our DataGuard utility and restore the database from this backup on another one.
Follow these steps:
Note: press the red cross next to the 'Search' field after the project is found, otherwise you will not see the complete list of projects next time you open Project Manager.
+ sign near the search engine for which you want to add an account.Suggest A Feature or contact support@webceo.com. We usually add new search engines within few days.Once you reinstall Web CEO and restore your data files from this backup, you will be able to use all account datasets that you created earlier.
If you double-click on any specific task, you'll get the task configuration window. There you will see all the details for this task - profile used, report selected, number of search engines and keywords used, etc.
Go to File > Settings > General tab > Miscellaneous > Other
Check the box 'Minimize to system tray when you close Web CEO'.
Go to the Scheduler tab > General section.
Check the box Run Web CEO on Windows startup.
Also, please note the Scheduler will not run tasks when it is deactivated. You can activate / deactivate the Scheduler by right-clicking its icon in the Web CEO tray (bottom right corner of the Web CEO screen) and selecting or deselecting 'Turn On/Off Scheduler'.
When next launched, the program lists all the expired tasks. It prompts you to apply the default action or change their actions. You can turn this on or off by using the box 'Do not show the 'Expired tasks' window' in the Web CEO settings (File > Settings > Scheduler > General).
To access these settings, go to File > Settings and then select the "Scheduler" tab. In the "History" section, choose how long you want to keep the completed tasks information.
In the Task configuration window please go to the '3. E-mailing' tab and configure the profile: you can define the mailbox that you send the report from, the recipient(s)' email(s), the subject of the message and the type of report.
Please take care to specify the mailing settings first: select 'Settings' from the 'File' menu, go to the 'General' tab, then choose 'Mail transfer' and set the email account.
You can also create your own filters: please select 'New filter' from the drop-down menu and define your preferences there.
Open the 'Task configuration' window, go to the '3. Emailing' tab, check the 'Send an email with the report' option, and enter the email address of the recipient. To send a report to more than one recipient, use the Cc and Bcc fields and enter a semicolon to separate the addresses if necessary.
There you will be able to specify start date and time.
Go to the 'Auto Submission' tab > 'Select Engines', choose the group of search engines you want to submit to. Then highlight them - you can use standard methods such as SHIFT key + arrow up/down or CTRL/SHIFT key + left mouse.
Modify the submission rules (you can find them on the right-hand panel) - resubmission period, maximum number of pages to submit, etc.
After you have changed the submission rules, click 'Apply changes' and the rule will be set for all the selected search engines.
Besides, you can create a search engine list of your own in the 'Manual Submission' section and submit to those search engines:
Note: you can edit details related to the added search engine by right-clicking on the site name and selecting 'Edit selected' on the popup menu. Similarly, you can delete a search engine or directory by selecting 'Delete resource' on the popup menu.
Go to the 'Setup' tab > 'Page Details' and uncheck the 'Submit home page only' option. Then press 'Manage list'. The Page list manager window will appear.
In the Page list manager press 'Import from' and select one of the options from the drop-down menu. You can have the program to import the pages list from your site by scanning links, from the text file or from clipboard. Besides, you can import the list of pages from another tool.
To import list of pages from another project, press 'Import from' > 'Advanced import'. You will be given a list of Web CEO tools where you can import pages from.
To make this rule applicable, please go to 'Auto Submission' > 'Select engines' and choose the SEs you want to submit to: - highlight them - you can use standard methods such as SHIFT key + arrow up/down or CTRL/SHIFT key + left mouse. - uncheck 'Submit Home page only' - change the 'Submit maximum pages per day' number so that all of the pages you selected could be submitted.
For major crawlers (the ones that will generate 90% of your traffic), it is important that your site has many inbound links. In general, you cannot expect wonders overnight - it takes time for your site to get listed.
Unfortunately, search engines often provide no guarantee of inclusion of submitted sites in their search indices. They warn users of this on their submission pages. Our submission tool is intended to help the user submit data; it is not a special service that guarantees inclusion.
Go to the 'Auto Submission' tab, 'Select Engines', choose the group of search engines you want to change the resubmission period for. Then highlight them - you can use standard methods such as SHIFT key + arrow up/down or CTRL/SHIFT key + left mouse.
On the right panel, check the 'Resubmit in ...' box, and enter the number of days (say, 30).
After that click 'Apply changes' and the new resubmission period will be set for all the selected search engines.
Nevertheless, we do not recommend that you specify your primary e-mail address in contact details on the submission form. Please create a special address for this purpose. Unfortunately, we do not control search engines and we assume that some operators of search engines may sign you up for their newsletters without your explicit permission.
In the 'Features' menu, select 'Ranking', go to the '2. Indexed pages' tab, configure and run the report to get the list of the page URLs indexed by different search engines.
You can also try an advanced search on Yahoo and Google - they support special syntax for that. To do this, type in 'site:your-site-name.com' in the search box, and you will be provided with the list of indexed URLs and their number at the top of the list.
After you've selected the search engine or directory and pressed 'Go to Submission page', the fields the program can complete are normally completed.
Besides, you can configure a profile for your project and use several filters at once: just press the 'All submissions' button, select 'New Profile' and set the preferences.
You can create as many profiles as you need and also edit existing profiles.
On the 'Manual Submission' tab, select 'Custom SE list' and right-click it.
Choose 'Add new' > 'Category' from the menu.
Enter the name of the custom category. You can add as many categories as necessary.
However, you can submit your website information to such major search engines as Yahoo and Bing with the help of our Submission tool:
Note: to submit to Yahoo! search, you must have a Yahoo account. If you do not have such an account, please create one before you try to submit your webpage.
FTP Uploader has no reference to the site project you work with. This means that you can even use the demo site (www.weatherscreen.com) to enter an alternate FTP address in the Uploader settings and upload files to this FTP address.
Choose the place to download your files to on the left pane ("My Computer"). Open the folder on the web server ("My Site" pane) that contains the files you would like to download. Select the files or folders. Press the button with the large blue arrow. You can download files of any type and size.
Open the destination folder on the web server where you want to upload files. Browse to the local folder. Select files or folders to upload, and press the large blue arrow. You can upload files of any type and size.
To check your FTP settings, go to Options on the Uploader toolbar, and make sure that you have entered all necessary details to set up a connection with the FTP server. Your host should provide the host name, user name, password, port, and user folder.
Ensure that your firewall or anti-virus software allows Web CEO access through the FTP port (by default, 21). If you are having trouble, try switching to passive mode in your Uploader connection settings.
Make sure that these settings are correct; press Save and then Connect. If the problem persists, contact your hosting company to find out if they have changed some details without informing you.
Go to Options on the Uploader toolbar and verify that the option to send the No operation command to your server is enabled. You can also decrease the period between NOOP commands from 30 to 10 seconds.
t see them on theMy Site` paneSend the List-a command for possibility to see hidden files and hit Save or Apply.
After the changes are saved, you can connect to your server again and view the list of files and folders on the right-hand Uploader pane.
Check Enable Automatic Data Files Maintenance and select an option (daily, monthly, weekly).
In the Actions section, select Check The Current Data Files And Create Backup.
Once you register Web CEO at a new location under your principal account, you will receive all projects with HitLens and website monitoring.
However, if you would like Web CEO to be identical on both machines, you will need to make a backup on one PC and then restore it on the other location.
Create A Backup Of Web CEO Data Files. Please note that you can restore a backup only to the Web CEO registered under the same account where the backup was created.
I. Back up your database before reinstalling:
Close Web CEO and go to Start > Programs > Web CEO > Web CEO DataGuard.
Press Create A Backup Of Web CEO Data Files to create a backup of your current Web CEO data files.
II. Install Web CEO:
Download the latest installation file from our download page in order to have the most recent program revision.
Run the downloaded installation file webceo.exe to install the program on your PC.
During the reinstall process, you will be prompted to restore your database from the previously created backup. Accept this option, click Next, browse to the backup file, and click Open.
Enter your password, and click OK. The program will connect to the Datacenter and recognize you as an existing user.
Incorrect DB Signature error or others)Close Web CEO and open the Web CEO DataGuard utility (Start > Programs > Web CEO > Web CEO DataGuard).
Click 'Check And Optimize Web CEO Data Files'.
If the message informs you that the repair has been completed successfully, open Web CEO and run the report again.
If the database appears to have irreparable damage, you should replace it with a backup file. The default location of the data backup files is
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_WINDOWS_USER_NAME\My Documents\My Web CEO Projects\Backup or C:\users\YOUR_WINDOWS_USER_NAME\Documents\My Web CEO Projects\Backup (if you run Windows Vista or Windows 7).
To restore from a backup, scan for backups (Restore Web CEO Data Files From Backup > Find). Select the backup file and hit Restore. Close DataGuard and run Web CEO again.
If you do not have a backup, please contact support@webceo.com.
Download the latest installation file from http://www.webceo.com/download/ as it is always better to have the most recent program revision.
Run 'webceo.exe' to install the program.
Choose the 'I'm an existing user' option during the installation, enter your existing registration e-mail and password, and the program will recognize you as an existing user.
In case you don't remember your Web CEO password, you can click the "Forgot password?" button right on the registration window, or go to the Password reminder form at our site http://www.webceo.com/support/#Password to have the password resent to the mailbox with which your Web CEO license was registered.
If you have websites with Hitlens/Monitoring active, you will get their list in the Project Manager. To activate HitLens at the new location, enter the master password for HitLens.
So, if you do have a backup, follow this way:
close Web CEO and run DataGuard (Start > Programs > Web CEO > Web CEO DataGuard);
scan for backups (Restore Web CEO Data Files > Find), select the file, and hit Restore.
Step 1: Plan. Select the HitLens service plan you need. If you want your transactions and ad campaigns tracked, you will most likely select eCommerce.
Step 2: Passwords. Set the Master password and optional Guest and eCommerce passwords.
Step 3: Pages. Select webpages stored on your computer as the local copy of your website and enable HitLens by inserting the tracking code into the page's source code.
Step 4: Names and Groups. Give custom names to individual pages. If you need statistics for groups of pages, arrange them into content groups. If not, skip this step, and your webpages will be reported under their file names.
Step 5: eCommerce. Assign transactions to the Thank You pages. You can also enter the order amount if your transaction is expected to result in an order.
Step 6: Exclusions. You may exclude your own visits from statistics by entering your IP address in the IP filter or by setting up a cookie.
Step 7: Custom tracking. Learn how to set up special tracking services such as tracking downloadable files, ad campaigns, dynamic webpages, and server load balance.
Step 8: Advanced settings. Set up URL masks and adjust the location of webceo.js. The URL masks give you advanced control of which parts of the domain are considered part of your site. If you cannot put the webceo.js file in the domain root (i.e. www.yourdomain.com/webceo.js), then adjust the path on the Advanced tab. Don't forget to insert the tracking code into your pages again.
Being an external file, webceo.js is another part of the tracking code. This means that it is referenced from the embedded tracking code and its variables are not site-specific, so it doesn't usually require any modifications (you can even download it from http://www.webceo.com/webceo.js and upload it to your site).
After you have added the HitLens tracking code to your pages, make sure to upload pages with the new tracking code. If you need help, our specialists can assist you for an additional fee. Depending on the difficulty, the cost may vary from $100 to $300.
HitLens Settings.Plan tab of the HitLens wizard, choose Deactivate HitLens and then hit Yes.
The program will send a command to the Web CEO Datacenter to delete the HitLens database of your site and will change this site's HitLens status to Not Active.
To complete the HitLens deactivation, you must also remove the HitLens embedded tracking code from your web pages and the external script (webceo.js) from your web server to stop loading the Web CEO tracking servers.Note: when you deactivate HitLens, the database is erased on the server, and you can no longer retrieve your reports. If you need to keep the data that HitLens has already collected, be sure to export your reports using the File > Export command.
If you have more than one site with HitLens activated, repeat the procedure for each site.
As a rule, when you activate HitLens for a framed site, HitLens will detect a page with frameset and present you with a special code (frameset.js) to insert into your page -- you should see the 'Recommended to enable' message against such a page file name.
If for any reason you prefer to insert this script by hand, you should do as follows:
When creating a Dreamweaver template, you should insert a new Editable Region (Insert > Template Objects > Editable Region (Ctrl + Alt + V)) at the bottom of the template page. For instance, you can name this region 'Hitlens'. You will see the following lines in the code:
<!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="HitLens" -->
<!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
Move the "<!-- TemplateEndEditable -->" line in the code so that it is placed after the closing tag :
<!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="HitLens" --> <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
The HitLens Wizard is set to insert the tracking code before the closing tag. If you create the Editable Region in the way shown above, the HitLens tracking code will be inserted into the editable area.
To insert the HitLens code into the page, please go to Project Manager (File > Project Manager), select your website there and press 'HitLens settings'. This will open the HitLens wizard window. Select the 'Pages' tab and insert the tracking code into each page of your site. Then upload the updated pages to your Web server.
Note: if you put the mouse pointer on one of the following lines:
<!-- TemplateBeginEditable name="HitLens" --> or <!-- TemplateEndEditable -->
You will get the following warning on the Properties tab:
"Invalid markup <!-- Marked invalid because it's an overlapping or unclosed tag. If the display look correct, it is safe to delete these tags."
Please don't pay attention to this message, as it doesn't affect the work of your website.
To give your client access to HitLens reports from his/her location, you should:
Note: You can follow the same steps to set the eCommerce password. If you do this, the user will be prompted to enter the eCommerce password in order to have access to the eCommerce and Campaigns reports.
Your client should:
As a result, your client will be able to view the traffic reports on his/her PC, but he/she will not be able to change the HitLens settings.
Copy the HitLens tracking script and learn what the variables are used for.
Create dynamic variables with necessary values and pass these values to the HitLens code.
Insert the modified code into your pages and upload them to your Web server.
For more details, read our example for the PHP-driven pages that is given in Part III of the Help topics (Help > Help Topics > Part III: How To Analyze Your Performance > Step 9. Monitor traffic with HitLens > Sub-step 1. Setting up live visitor tracking > Setting up HitLens for dynamic sites).
If you doubt your ability to complete this task, or simply have no time to look into it, our specialists can help you for an additional fee. Depending on the difficulty, the cost of this job may vary from $100 to $300.
If you wish to proceed with this process, please contact our customer support department at support @ webceo.com .
There are three common reasons why this happens.
Solution: compare the Web page IDs - they should be the same on your server and in your local copies.
Solution: remove the incorrect script and insert it using either the HitLens wizard or by hand.
Solution: the page's name should be included in the code as a value of var PAGENAME.
<iframe name="HitLens_frame" src="news.html" width="1" height="1" scrolling="no" frameborder="0"></iframe>
..where "news.html" is the first section of the movie.
getURL("yourpage.html", "HitLens_frame");
where "yourpage.html" is a blank html page that is assigned to the event you wish to track (movie load started, movie load finished, button click, divisions, subdivision entrance),
and "HitLens_frame" is a frame created on the page where the main movie is located (see point #3).
As a result, you will get movie sections tracked under their logical names.
undefined:
a referrer isn't located on the Web, or is located on the local Web, or is blocked by a firewall or another similar program;
the visitor's browser doesn't support cookies;
a visit has started on a page of your site that lacks tracking script, or the page's script didn't work for some reason (for example, if the page is very large and takes some time to load, the visitor might not wait until it loads fully before proceeding to another page);
your site consists of frames. Normally, HitLens detects a frame controller page (where the frameset is described) and offers to insert special code in it. If for some reason HitLens fails to detect the frame controller file, you should insert the code by hand into the Head tag. Download the script file from the Web CEO site at http://www.webceo.com/download/frameset.js.
Note: this script is only for frame controller pages, it cannot be used for other pages.
If you have any other HitLens-related questions that were unanswered in this section, please contact our customer support department at support @ webceo.com .
If your sites don't include framesets, you'll need only embedded and external Java Scripts. Get the embedded JavaScript by copying it from the preview window in the HitLens Wizard.
Assign values to the following variables:
var id = $SITE_ID$ > var id = 1234. This lets the system know what site is being tracked. Your site ID is available in the Project Manager.
var pc = $PAGE_ID$ > var pc = 0 to let HitLens know that it should not look in the database server for a page's name. These two variables are the same for all pages of your site.
To let the system know that the value should be used for the page's name, enter var PAGENAME = escape('') > var PAGENAME = escape('My Homepage').
You can also populate the content group variable (var CONTENTGROUP), if you want to group some pages under the same category based on their content, or transaction (var TRANSACTION) for your thank-you pages if you want to track transactions. PAGENAME and other HitLens variables are page-specific.
Insert the changed tracking code into your HTML page between the opening and closing Body tags.
Get the most recent version of the external JavaScript script from the Web CEO site at http://www.webceo.com/webceo.js.
Upload the pages with the embedded JavaScript and the external webceo.js to your host.
If your site pages are not composed ones (generated from different files based on some dynamic technology), you can download them to your PC and use the HitLens wizard to insert the tracking code and set up tracking. You can then use the Web CEO Uploader to copy the page files from your PC to your web server over FTP.
If for some reason downloading page files does not seem reasonable, you can insert the script manually. Follow the below instructions on manual script insertion.
If your site uses some dynamic technology, the tracking code will need customization to extract values from your databases and populate in HitLens.
You can get a basic understanding about the Hitlens variables from Part III of the Help file (Part III. Analyze Your Performance: Rankings and Traffic > Step 9. Monitor traffic with HitLens > Setting up HitLens for dynamic websites > Sub-step 1: Get the tracking code and understand its variables).
HitLens has three types of the tracking scripts: embedded, external, and frameset. Embedded scripts are inserted in the pages before the closing tag. External script refers to webceo.js, a file that is referenced in the embedded script; this file should be uploaded to the root directory of your domain. The frameset for the frame controller pages is inserted in the Head tag and used to define external referrers and exclude counting double hits.
Note: the HitLens passwords can be different from your Web CEO account password.
The master password is mandatory. The site owner sets it while activating HitLens. Master passwords are associated with the Web CEO registration details for the person who activated HitLens for the site. Master passwords give full access to HitLens modifications. If the site owner gives his/her Master password to another person, this person will be able to view traffic reports and change some of the HitLens settings for that site.
If you want somebody (for example, your client) to view the Hitlens reports, you can set a Guest password for him/her. The Guest passwords only allow Web CEO users to view traffic reports (no HitLens settings can be changed).
You can also set an eCommerce password. If you do this, the user who has entered the Guest password will be prompted to enter the eCommerce password when he/she attempts to access reports under eCommerce and Campaigns.
If you forgot your Master password, you can request it from the Web CEO Datacenter. Just click 'Forgot password' on the Master password request form and it will be sent to your e-mail address (since it is also your Web CEO user name).
http://www.yoursite.com/your_landing_page.html?source=banner101&kwd=my+key+phrase
The source parameter stands for the campaign name, and the kwd parameter stands for the keyword.
If your key phrase contains more than one word, we recommend separating the words with a + sign.
As soon as you activate your ad campaign tracking and a visitor comes to your site by following the link, Banner101 (see the URL in the above example) will appear in your HitLens reports under Campaigns. Select this campaign, then press Budget to enter the cost.
There are several reports related to ad campaigns: Activity By Campaign, Cost Of Visit By Campaign, Cost Of Transaction By Campaign, and ROI. You can also view Details in the Activity By Campaign report to see the list of keywords related to a specific campaign and stats that have been generated by keywords used in the campaign.
For more details on campaign tracking, see Help > Help Topics > Part III. Analyze Your Performance > Step 9. Monitor Traffic With HitLens > Sub-Step 2. Viewing Reports > Sub-Step 10: Get An Overview Of Your Ad Campaigns: Clicks, Actions, Revenues.
See also Help > Help Topics > Part III: Analyze Your Performance > Step 9. Monitor Traffic With HitLens > Sub-Step 1. Setting Up Live Visitor Tracking > Tracking Ad Campaigns.
If you enabled tracking using the HitLens Wizard, you should do as follows:
As a result, you'll enable generation and viewing of some reports, namely: 'New visitors by content groups', 'Visitors by content groups', 'Repeated visitors by content groups' (all in Visitors category), and 'Views by content groups' (in 'Pages' category).
Make sure that you are using HitLens eCommerce reporting plan for your website.
Insert the tracking code into the page that shows up to your visitor after he/she completes the form (also known as the 'thank-you' page).
Assign a transaction and amount (if applicable) to this page on the eCommerce tab in the HitLens settings.
The number of people who have made a positive decision - i.e. who have ordered your goods or services by filling out the order form - will be shown in the eCommerce reports group in HitLens.
You may refer to our Help file (Help > Help topics > Part III: How do you analyze your achievements? > Step 9. Monitor traffic with HitLens > Sub-step 1. Setting up live visitor tracking and Sub-step 2. Viewing reports > Sub-step 6: Get a summary of your eCommerce: visits, conversions, revenues) for more details on the eCommerce tracking activation.

Log file analyzers and real-time visitor tracking systems monitor website activity differently. Log analyzers report server-side activity, such as how many times a file has been requested from the server. Visitor tracking systems are based on tracking scripts and obtain information directly from visitors' browsers, reflecting how many times a file has been loaded onto browsers. These techniques provide two sets of data describing the same site's traffic.
Both systems have their own advantages and disadvantages. If your focus is on technical performance, like bandwidth consumption, server clustering, and peak loads, then log analyzers will give the most detailed data. However, most website owners and operators are interested in how well their sites satisfy visitors' needs, so visitor tracking systems are much better at providing this information.
Open File > Project Manager, and select www.yourmainsite.com there.
Click HitLens Settings, go to the Advanced section, and click URL Masks. Add the following URL masks with the include rule:
yoursecondarysite.com/ .yoursecondarysite.com/*
Press OK and then Apply to save changes to your HitLens settings.
Take a simplified example. Imagine having only one visitor to our site. This visitor arrives at the home page. After the tracking script has run and the HitLens variables have been passed to the tracking system, HitLens makes a record of this visitor: one visitor, one visit, and one page view. If the visitor then goes to another page of our site, only the page views count increases: one visitor, one visit, and two page views. The visitor leaves the site, comes back after a few hours on the same day, and views only the home page. The tracking system will update the information about this visitor as follows: one visitor, two visits, and three page views. The next day, the visitor returns to your site and browses three pages. The tracking system will log on that day: one visitor, one visit, three page views. You will see these stats exactly as described if you run daily HitLens reports for our imaginary site.
The weekly number of unique visitors will be calculated as a sum total of the daily unique visitors. So the expiry period for a unique visitor is set to one day -- the numbers of daily unique visitors will be added to make up the weekly, monthly, and yearly numbers of unique visitors.
Note for our customers who are used to our previous method of unique visitor calculation: we've decided to change it for the sake of better reconciliation. Our previous method was non- standard and gave rise to many questions, though it was more accurate and objective.
Please specify your website URL and the Joomla version.
If you are using the classic style of Web CEO, you should indicate your site project in the Project dropdown box in the top right corner of the Optimization screen, after the Optimization Tool opens.
Note: this advanced option is only available for Professional users.
For more details, refer to the help manual (Help > Help Topics > Part I. How to Find Your Niche and Optimize Your Site > Step 2. Get optimization advice).
If you want to analyze your web copy, click 'Web page' on the Setup tab. Add the URL of this page by clicking 'Manage List'.
To add a single page, click 'Add Pages Manually', enter the page URL, and click OK. You can enter an absolute URL (http://www.yourWebSite.com/yourpage1.htm) or a relative URL (yourpage1.htm). Note that the root URL of your project (http://www.yourWebSite.com) is already prefixed before the address field. Therefore, you only need to type the path (e.g. products/product.htm).
To add several pages from your site, click 'Import From' and select My Site. You can specify how many page levels the program is going to scan. You can also import from a text file, clipboard, or another Web CEO project.
After the page list is generated, check the pages that you would like to be shown in the list, and select the page that you wish to preview/optimize.
Our optimization tool imitates the search engine's way of understanding HTML codes, which is why it didn't find your keywords in the <body> tag of your page.
If you are having this problem, please check to make sure your HTML code is correct, and then try running the optimization report again.
There are two options available with this feature: you can compare your page to another webpage of your choice (in this case, enter the full URL beginning with "http://"), or compare to any page occupying the top positions in the search engine's rank. Note that you cannot select more than 5 pages at a time.
To add several pages from your site, click 'Import From' and select 'My Site'. You can specify how many page levels the program is going to scan. You can also import from a text file, clipboard, or another Web CEO project.
After the page list is generated, check the pages that you would like to be shown in the list, and select the page that you wish to preview/optimize.
In addition, if your links were created with the help of java scripts, search engine spiders will not be able to follow them. This means that some pages of your site will not be indexed, if there are no text links or graphical links pointing to them that search engines may follow.
To help optimizers understand the search engine spiders' point of view, the Web CEO Optimization tool offers the Search Engine View report. This report shows what page elements are visible for search engines, so you can decide to modify the code if necessary.
You can this setting on or off using the Cache tab in the Optimization settings (File > Settings > Optimization tab > Cache). Select the parameters you wish to save (by default, all options are selected). You can also specify the period to keep the cached information (default is 3 days).
You can turn this setting on or off using the 'Cache' tab in the Optimization settings (File > Settings > Optimization tab > Cache). Select the parameters you wish to save (by default, all options are selected). You can also specify the period to keep the cached information (default is 3 days).
Intelligent analysis for the English language is enabled by default. You can choose to disable this feature by deselecting 'Use Intelligent Analysis' for optimization in the Optimization settings (File > Settings > Optimization > General), or check additional languages there. Note that intelligent analysis requires more time for the report to complete, so only select those languages you really use in your pages.
If 'Backlinks Analysis' is enabled, then Web CEO can count the presence of the keyword in the title, meta descriptions, body, and link texts on the referring page and/or the PR for linking sites (Google PageRank of the referring pages). You can also adjust the maximum number of backlinks to include. These options are enabled by default, as these parameters are important for in-depth analysis of factors influencing your website's rankings.
You can see how search engine spiders view your page if you run the Search Engine View report on the last tab in Optimization. You can set up the program to highlight the keywords, so you can easily see where they appear on the page from the search engine's point of view.
SE View Report tab - where can I enter or select keywords?Open Web CEO Editor, Dreamweaver or any other HTML editor: there you will be able to find this text or tag in your code using the "Search" option (normally Ctrl+F), and correct it.
Select 'Local Scanning' from the Auditor screen to scan the local copy of your site. You can browse the folders to indicate the path to your local copy on your hard drive.
Another option is to specify patterns for ignored URLs in the Exclusions list found in the (Options > Site properties > Exclusions). For example, to exclude images, you can specify file type patterns such as .jpg or .gif or exclude the folder where images are stored, http://www.mywebsite.com/images/. .
http://www.mywebsite.com/.gif http://www.mywebsite.com/images/.*
Click "Save" or "Apply" to save changes in the settings.
After you run the Auditor scan for your site, you will see a list of pages with symbols. An exclamation mark indicates a potential problem, while a red cross denotes a serious error. Select any webpage to view properties (URL, size of the HTML code, full download size including images title, description, and keyword tags) or errors and warnings.
For example, let's assume that mypage11.html has a broken link to mypage22.htm. Use the Editor tool to locate and fix this link in the code of your page.
To learn more about Auditor, go to Help > Help Topics > Part IV. How to Maintain Your Website > Step 10 Control the quality of your site.
You can set up Auditor to look for such files in the local copy or by using FTP.
To find orphaned files:
If the returned URL includes an ftp or mailto scheme, only the syntax of the URL is checked.
To purchase a Web CEO edition, please click 'Account' in the main menu of the program, and go to 'My Account'. Then, enter your personal and payment details, select an edition and press 'Order now'. You'll be transferred to our payment processor's secure page where the order will be completed.
First, the size of the program installation file is about 27 Mb only, and you can easily download it from the Internet, so this is the main way we distribute it. Second, the program gets updated every two or three days, so it doesn't make much sense to provide you with a boxed version as you will need to update it very often regardless.
You can save the installation file you download from our server in case you think you will need it in the future.
Web CEO offers three services that are optional: HitLens (visitor tracking system), Web site monitoring, and Knowledge Base updates. When activated, these services are charged additionally and periodically. You can also find more detailed info at this page. If they are not activated, you won't be charged anything.
The only potential on-going charge that is worth mentioning in context of the initial purchase is the search engine Knowledge Base support. This service is free during the first 90 days from the purchase day and can be optionally subscribed to thereafter. You can subscribe to 3, 12, and 18 months of KB support. The longer the KB support period is, the better the discount. The cost per day will depend on the support plan you select and ranges from $.54 per day (if you order 3 months of KB support) to $.29 (if you pay for 18 months at once). The current prices of KB updates are given at our website.
The monthly charge for HitLens is measured in thousands of page views multiplied by the rate of the chosen plan. For example, if you activate the Power plan, you will be charged $.59 per 1,000 page views. If you need eCommerce tracking, your charge will be $.79 per 1,000 page views.
If you have the Power plan and your traffic does not exceed 16,000 page views, you won't pay more than the minimum monthly fee of $9.95. With the eCommerce plan, the minimum monthly fee covers 12,000 page views.
We provide volume discounts for our customers with highly-trafficked sites. The 5% discount is automatically applied if the monthly number of page views is higher than 26,000. The maximum discount is 44%, which is effective if your site enjoys 5,000,000+ page views per month. You can find detailed information about discounts as well as an example of HitLens calculation at this page of our website.
Please note that monthly page views are rounded up to the nearest thousand. If you are switching from the eCommerce to the Power plan, changes will take effect at the beginning of a new month.
The Power reporting plan lets you view over 90 reports that are organized into eight categories for an in-depth analysis of your visitors. For most users, this is the best choice, unless you sell goods or services online and pay for advertising.
In addition to the Power plan features, the eCommerce reporting plan enables you to analyze your revenues, profits, conversion rates, ROI etc. You can also track your ad campaigns, such as PPC (Google, Yahoo!, etc.), banner and text ads, and newsletters.
Free: $0.00 / month, time interval - every 480 min. Silver: : $9.95 /month, time interval - every 30 min. Gold: $18.95 / month, time interval - every 15 min. Platinum: $49.95 / month, time interval - every 5 min.
Details are available at this page.
The current prices of KB updates are given at this page at our website.
Program version upgrades are also free for all existing users. We highly recommend that users upgrade to the newest version of Web CEO; we do not provide support for older versions.
Our business hours are: 7:30 AM - 07:00 PM by Greenwich, London or 2:30 AM - 2:00 PM by Eastern Standard Time (New York), Monday through Friday.
Search engines often change their algorithms and regular expressions. We have several specialists who track those changes in a thousand of search engines daily and modify the Knowledge Base accordingly. That's why this service comes at an extra charge.
Those who regularly use the Keyword Suggestion tool, Ranking Checker, Link Popularity Analyzer, Optimization, Partner Finder, Submission, and PPC Campaigns Manager will need updates on a regular basis. Those who use the HitLens statistics, Monitoring, Editor and Uploader only won't need KB updates, which is why they are offered as an extra service.
If you wish to use these tools to the full extent and receive the KB updates, please extend your KB subscription. Click 'Update Knowledge Base' at the bottom of your Web CEO screen for additional details, including rates.
In order to start collecting the stats, you need to go through all steps of the activation wizard. This process involves inserting the tracking script into your pages, automatically or manually, and uploading files to your hosting server.
If you're not sure how to correctly activate the HitLens statistics and start the tracking, feel free to contact the support service: support@webceo.com .
Please contact the support service from the e-mail address under which you have registered your Web CEO.
Note that this money-back guarantee does not apply to payments for the bundled services (HitLens statistical service, site monitoring service, and knowledge base updates); nor does it retain power after 30 days expire from the moment you have bought Web CEO.
Once you enter your VAT number into your account details in Web CEO (Account > My Account > User Information), you will not be charged the VAT with future payments to Web CEO.
The Web CEO Datacenter initiates the payment processor to use the data stored in their database; only asterisks and the last four digits of the credit card number are recorded (i.e. *****1234). They are not encrypted numbers, so they can't be decrypted.
So you can download Web CEO from our site, register for a Free Trial and use all the features fully during the trial period.
The only limitations of Free Trial in comparison with Pro are:
Number of projects. In the trial edition, you can only work with 2 website projects, while in Professional the number of projects to work with is not limited.
Monitoring service plans. Only the Free Monitoring plan is available in Free Trial.
After the Free Trial period is over, the following changes will happen:
Once you purchase the license, all the limitations will be removed, and you will be able to use Web CEO to the full extent. We provide the 30-day money-back guarantee, so you do not risk much.
You can find detailed info about branding in Web CEO Help file (Help > Help topics > Setting up Web CEO to work your way > Customizing reports with your brand).
To remove the standard header and footer, run Internet Explorer, click 'Page Setup' on the 'File' menu. Remove the pattern for header and footer, and click 'OK'.
Note: you can export reports to .XLS format only in Keywords, Ranking, Links, Partners, HitLens, and Monitoring. Export into .CSV format is only available for Ranking, Links, Partners, and HitLens reports.
If you have a problem viewing the semicolon delimited report, please do the following:
Open the report file in MS Excel.
Click on the first column heading to select the column, then select 'Text to column' on the 'Data' submenu of the main Excel menu.
The 'Convert text to column' wizard will open. Select 'Delimited' as the data file type and click 'Next'. Next, select 'Semicolon' as a delimiter and press 'Next' and then 'Finish'.
Go to File > Settings > General > Mail Transfer > click 'Add'. Enter the proper SMTP settings of the email you would like to use in Web CEO.
If you don't want to enter all the settings manually, click 'Import' and select the mailbox of your regular mail client to import settings from.
You can check if the new email account is functioning properly: click 'Test account settings...' button to make Web CEO perform a connection test.
On the first 'Setup' tab press 'My Site', then 'Manage List'. You will be given the 'Page list manager' window.
There are two ways of selecting pages:
browse to the folder where the pages are kept;
import the list of pages: press the 'Import from' button and select the option you would prefer. You can import the list of the URLs from the text file, from clipboard or from another project.
For more details, refer to the help manual inside your Web CEO program (Help > Help Topics > Part I > Step 3. Edit your Web pages for search engines).
To save your site pages from the Web, you need to have the FTP access to your hosting server. You can then use the Web CEO Uploader to download site pages to your hard drive. As soon as you save your pages locally, you can open them for editing.
If you used a content management system to build your site and therefore cannot access your files via FTP, unfortunately you will not be able to modify your pages with Editor. In this case, the only option is to edit your pages in the same user interface that you used to create them.
Even if you are a novice and have never edited sites before, the specialized Editor structure makes access to your Web pages easy. Each tab in Editor combines two views of the page - visual mode and HTML code, so you can alter the visual copy of a page while seeing internal code changes in the background.
When you work with the templates-based pages, Editor will recognize them and offer you switching to the 'Dreamweaver compatibility mode'. In this mode the non-editable regions of the templates are not active in the Editor.
To create sitemaps for your site, select Editor in the Features menu, go to the 'Sitemaps' tab, and follow these steps:
Note: you can create the map of the entire site or its part containing the most important pages - just check the necessary pages only in the 'Page list manager'.
In the right pane, you can set parameters for every page in the sitemap separately or for several pages at once.
Define the sitemap format and the location of the sitemaps files at your PC: click 'Options' at the bottom right corner of the program window. By default, Web CEO generates sitemaps in '.xml', '.txt' and '.html' formats. The sitemap files are saved in the 'My Documents' system folder: ...\My Web CEO Projects\Sitemaps\, but you can assign them a custom location.
Press 'Generate'.
By default, Web CEO generates three sitemap types: XML, TXT and HTML, the ROR format can be selected additionally. If you need a single definite format only, click the 'Options' button (bottom right of the program window), uncheck unnecessary variants and leave the one you need only.
C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR_WINDOWS_USER_NAME\My Documents\My Web CEO Projects\ Sitemaps\ (Windows XP) or C:\users\YOUR_WINDOWS_USER_NAME\Documents\My Web CEO Projects\ Sitemaps\ (Windows Vista and Windows 7).
However, you can assign a custom folder for saving your sitemaps: just press the 'Options' button at the bottom right of the program window, click 'Browse' and define the location.
Go to the third 'Robots.txt' tab of the Editor tool and browse to the folder where you store your 'robots.txt' (or where you wish to save it if you haven't got one yet).
Select the search engine robots (spiders) you want to work with on the left pane. You can use the default list already present or edit it just click the 'Manage Spiders list' button at the bottom of the pane.
Change the 'robots.txt' contents by selecting a spider in the left-hand list and checking boxes next to the folders and files you want to allow or disallow access to.
To save your 'robots.txt' file, click 'Save'.
The 'Ignore pages with noindex meta tags pages disallowed in Robots.txt' option is present there and checked by default.
Please close Web CEO, wait 10 to 20 minutes, then open the program and try repeating the operation again.
Web CEO must be granted access to these ports and protocols: 80 - HTTP; 443 - HTTPS; 25 - SMTP; 20, 21 - FTP.
Cookies must be enabled for domains websiteceo.com and webceo.com.
The application files 'wsceokrnl.dll' and 'webceo.exe' must be allowed to send and receive data on the Internet.
If you are not sure how to do this, you can find the illustrated instructions on most popular firewalls in one PDF file.
If you don't find the answer there, contact us at support@webceo.com and tell us the name and version of your firewall, and we'll try to help you with more specific recommendations.
These are the firewalls we've tested:
80 - HTTP;
443 - HTTPS;
25 - SMTP;
20, 21 - FTP.
Please ensure your firewall is set up to allow 'wsceokrnl.dll' and 'webceo.exe' to connect to the Internet.
Note: Web CEO supports now only basic (when the user name and password are sent in clear text to the server) and NTLM authentication. If your server uses one of the challenge-response schemes for authentication such as Digest, MSN, DPA, RPA, etc. this setting won't help. If this is the case, please contact our support department at support@webceo.com.
[Error] SSL error: certificate is not yet valid error. What does it mean?To do this, go to File > Settings > General > Connections > Proxy. The first option you should try is 'using proxy settings from Internet Explorer' (or another browser you use to view Web pages). If this doesn't work, try 'proxy autoconfiguration' and the other options available here. For manual proxy settings, contact your network administrator to find out what they are.
If you have any firewalls, anti-spyware or other software that controls Internet traffic and can restrict applications from connecting, make sure that your software allows Web CEO (webceo.exe and wsceokrnl.dll) to create and accept HTTP connections through ports 80 and 443.
If this doesn't help, contact our support service at support@webceo.com. Be ready to answer the following questions -- they will help us to spot the problem so you can address it to your network administrator.
How do you connect to the Internet? Do you have a dial-up or cable connection? Do you connect via the local network? Do you connect through a proxy server or directly?
Check the connection settings in Web CEO. They should be the same as in Internet Explorer. If you have difficulty with this, please send us the screenshots of your connection settings in Web CEO (File > Settings > General tab > Connections> Proxy) and in Internet Explorer (if you use IE 7.0, you should look in Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings).
Do you have a firewall or other software that may be blocking the Web CEO traffic? In case there is a firewall, please consider the following:
Please note that even if an engine supports backward link checks, we may not have included it because it is powered by a different search engine (for example, AOL is powered by Google; therefore, you will not see it in the list despite the fact that it supports link checking). Thus, the repeated results are excluded, unnecessary queries avoided and traffic costs saved.
The domain filter is available on the "Linking pages", "Links text analysis" and "Linking sites overview" tabs.
The thing is Google, like any other major search engine, has one general database where all the links are counted. All the regional versions of major SEs show the results pulling them out of the general database.
editions) and '5. Linkings sites overview' tabs. In a Profile manager, go to the 'Set scan rules' tab and check the
respective options.
Now we offer the fully-functional Free Trial of Web CEO. Free Trial lets you use all the features including the subscription-based services for a limited trial period of 15 days.
So you should download the new Web CEO version from http://www.webceo.com , reinstall it and use all the features fully during the trial period.
Check the Windows 'Regional Settings':
Make sure that you have your country selected as your location and your language selected as the language version of the non-Unicode programs.
Besides, we have discovered that those our clients using the Gmail services have the following problem: the Web CEO messages come to the 'Spam' Gmail boxes immediately. So, if your mail provider is Gmail client, please check this too.
Users of SpamArrest and similar services should make sure that they can get e-mails from 'support@webceo.com'.
If you personally don't use the anti-spam software, the message blocking might take place on a higher level -- your ISP or network administrator. Ask them to verify that you can receive e-mail messages from 'support@webceo.com'.
Anyway, resend your original request to us, because we don't know that our reply was deleted or filtered.

We offer such a compromise: temporarily move the user account to Administrators group. For the Web CEO installation, select a folder where the user has access - do not select the prompted C:/Program Files. After the installation is complete, remove this user from the Administrators group; this won't affect Web CEO's performance.
We have now changed the licensing model, so now we offer the fully-functional Free Trial of Web CEO. Free Trial lets you use all the features including the subscription-based services for a limited trial period of 15 days.
So you can download the new Web CEO from our site, reinstall it and use all the features fully during the trial period.
By comparing the portion of searches we have in our database to the estimated number of world daily searches, we are able to calculate the complex multiplier used to predict how many times each particular word or phrase is being searched for each month across the Web.
How do we do this? We take collections from the most recent three months. Our current database includes about 130,000,000 search terms. While we would like to be able to collect daily searches on all existing search engines, it is just impossible; many of the search engines don't even provide such information.
Click 'Organize SEs' and select a search engine from the list. You can select search engines based on country or language. Check 'Show checked only' to filter out all but your regional search engines. The selected search engines will be available in the 'Search engine' drop-down list.
Note: you can select language-specific search engines using the 'Select by Language' menu.
First, we cover different areas of the Internet. Web CEO collects search terms from 35 search engines, and Google Keywords Tool uses its own aggregated data gathered from Google searches.
Second, we use different methods. Web CEO extrapolates the data from our database to the monthly search requests across the web. By comparing the portion of searches in our database to the estimated number of world monthly searches, we can calculate the multiplier used to predict how many times each particular word or phrase is being searched for across the web. We take into account the three months' collections. Our current database includes about 130,000,000 search terms.
In the current version of the program, you can analyze Google Traffic Estimator data (search volume, CPC, average clicks/day, and average cost/day) for your targeted language or region. You can also set the currency to display the bids in. To do this, go to 'Analyze Competition', click the 'Options' button, and select countries and/or languages of interest in the 'Google Traffic Estimator' section.
< 0.001 = Poor keyword 0.002 - 0.010 = Good Keyword 0.011 - 0.100+ = Excellent Keyword
The higher the KEI ratio, the more popular your keywords are (more people are searching with those keywords), and the less competition they have (fewer web sites come up as relevant results in search engine results pages).
On the 'Get Suggestions' tab, click 'Add from file' and browse your hard drive for the text file with keywords.
Select the file and click 'Open'. The keywords should appear in the 'Keywords' field.
Click 'Start' to get results.
Note: in this case, the program does not search for combinations; it returns only exact matches to the key phrases added from a text file.
When you order one of the paid editions, you get 90 days of free support. After that you will be switched to the free version of the Keyword Research tool (5 keyword per run), however, at any time you can subscribe to the Knowledge Base updates service and get up to 1,000 keywords per run).
In case you would like to get the full-featured Keyword suggestion tool back, please extend your KB subscription. Visit our pricing page to see the options for the KB subscription.
Click on the 'Options' button on the bottom right to
Include/remove the number of pages with keywords anywhere on the page

Include/remove the KEI
Select/unselect positions of the top 10 sites to see their link popularity

Select/unselect positions of the top 10 sites to see their Google PageRank
To speed up data delivery, we do not calculate the KEI simultaneously with your request, but instead we update the competition and so the KEI with a certain time delay. Otherwise, we'd be handling many simultaneous requests (returning combinations with KEI and the competition) and we would compromise the speed of our program; the processes would be very long.
This is why the number of competitors for a specific search term shown in the Competition column can differ from the current value returned by Google.
Web CEO collects queries from several search engines, including Google, Excite.com, Kanoodle, MetaEureka.com, Dogpile, and Lycos. We use a total of 35 search engines. Although there are some German, French, Italian, and Spanish search engines, we are limited in the languages that we can utilize in our Keyword suggestion tool.
If you know of a regional search engine that provides search terms as a 'Live search' function in your language, please give us its URL, and we'll be happy to include it.
Get Suggestions tab?Note: if you have selected several keywords, the program will search for the exact matches. If one keyword or phrase is selected, the program will give a list of combinations.
Our Keywords tool, in contrast, reports the number of searches done using those keywords. Google counts pages, our Keywords tool counts searches. The number of search phrases people use to search the engine is normally much fewer than the number of pages with the keyword found by search engines in their indices.
Some search engines collect queries to their databases and provide them as a live search feature. Web CEO collects the words and phrases that users type into their search boxes to query some search engines, such as Google, MetaCrawler.com, Excite.com, Sharelook, Lycos and others 35 search engines in total.
Click 'Options' (bottom right) to change settings. You can unselect search engines and change the number of pages to get the keywords from.
You can also select languages and locations you target, and set the currency to display the bids in. It is especially useful if your site is not in English, and/or you plan to advertise it to audience in a specific country. The default choice is English, USD and 'All countries and territories'.
Click 'Options' (bottom right) and go to 'Google Traffic Estimator' to change the settings for these parameters.
After you set up these tasks, they will be reflected in Web CEO Scheduler. However to manage them, you need to open Dashboard and configure settings from here.
To start, go to File > Dashboard, and set up a new profile. Then configure the settings in the following tabs:
Manage projects - select the projects you wish to be present in the report.
Manage reports - select Web CEO reports. These will be run for each of the projects selected.
Configure reports - enter the necessary data to run the reports.
Report scheduling - configure the settings to run these reports daily.
Click Ok and you're done.
